Dr. Nieves Carbonell holds a degree in Medicine and Surgery, as well as a PhD in Medicine from the University of Valencia (2007). She has shown outstanding leadership in both clinical and research environments. She is currently the Head of the Polivalent Section (2023) and a Specialist in Intensive Care Medicine at the Medical Intensive Care Unit (ICU) of the Hospital Clínico Universitario of Valencia (HCUV), where she has been practicing since 2004. A member of several scientific societies (SEMICYUC, ESICM), she actively participates in projects and lectures related to infections in critically ill patients, within sepsis-focused working groups. Since 2013, she has been a consolidated R3 member of the Translational Epigenetics and Epigenomics Research Group at INCLIVA Health Research Institute in Valencia, Spain, where she investigates the role of circulating histones in sepsis. Beyond her contributions to sepsis research, she is a co-inventor of the patent family titled "Methods for the Measurement of Protein C and Activated Protein C" and a co-developer of the SepAsT software, which is registered as intellectual property. Member of the Infectious Diseases Committee and Antibiotic Policy, the local Antimicrobial Stewardship Group, as well as part of the CAR-T therapy multidisciplinary team at HCUV. Since 2014, she has coordinated the ZERO Projects initiative for the prevention of multidrug resistance in the ICU at HCUV. Teaching collaborator in the Department of Medicine at the Faculty of Medicine of Valencia. Active member of ELCLUB The Impact Project.
