Abstract
center dot The recruitment of preload is a physiological response to a stressed state such as exercise but in heart failure an increase in preload leads to an excessive increase in intracardiac pressures. center dot The reduction of preload can be achieved via number of pharmacological and nonpharmacological center dot Nonpharmacological interventions seek to reduce inflow to the heart or increase splanchnic vascular blood pooling.
