Dr. Sabater studied Medicine at the Faculty of Medicine of the University of Valencia (1984-1990) and obtained the specialty of General Surgery and the Digestive System via MIR at the Hospital Clínic of Barcelona (1991-1995). Doctor in Medicine and Surgery from the University of Barcelona in 1997, with Extraordinary Doctorate Award. Between 1996 and 1998, specialist physician at the Hospital Clínic of Barcelona integrated into the Pancreatic Surgery and Pancreas Transplant team. He has received different scholarships for complementary training in the specialty, with stays in Nagoya and Tokyo in Japan and Minneapolis in the United States. Since the end of 1998, Specialist Physician at the Hospital Clínico de Valencia, in the Hepatobiliopancreatic Surgery and Peritoneal Carcinomatosis Unit, being appointed Head of Section of the Hepato – Biliary -Pancreatic Surgery Unit in 2014 and since 2023 Head of the Department of General Surgery. His teaching work began during his studies in the specialty, first at the Hospital Clínic of Barcelona and later at the Faculty of Medicine of Valencia, obtaining a position as Associate Professor in 2012 and Full Professor of Surgery in 2022. In 2009 he obtained in Brussels he European Board of Surgery Qualification in Hepato-Biliary and Pancreatic Surgery. His research work, in parallel with his healthcare work, has focused on liver, pancreatic and biliary oncological surgery. He has more than 180 scientific publications, author of 3 books/monographs on specialty topics and 1 video-atlas; he has presented more than 300 presentations and communications at scientific conferences and has supervised numerous doctoral theses and TFG. He has participated in 25 research projects, 7 of them as PI. He has received 21 research awards, highlighting the 2015 Medtronic National Surgery Award and the 2020 National Surgery Award. In addition, he has participated in the development and patent of Three-Dimensional Modeling Software in Pancreatic Surgery. He has management responsibility in 5 scientific societies, highlighting the Board of Directors of the Spanish Association of Surgeons, being President of the Scientific Committee; responsibility for Healthcare Quality Management in 5 hospital committees and has been a reviewer for 11 specialty journals, among others Annals of Surgery and Cancer Treatment Reviews. On the other hand, he has participated in the organization of more than 25 scientific conferences and Congresses. Since 2016, he has been a corresponding member of the Academy of Medicine of the Valencian Community and is currently also Deputy Scientific Director at the INCLIVA Biomedical Research Institute.
