Dr. José T. Real is Professor of Medicine at the University of Valencia and Head of the Endocrinology and Nutrition Service at the Hospital Clínico Universitario of Valencia. His training as a medical internal resident was carried out at the Hospital Clínico Universitario of Valencia. After completing this period, he trained in molecular biology laboratory techniques, obtaining his PhD in the field of molecular biology applied to the study of primary dyslipidemia, making an important contribution to the genetic diagnosis of familial hypercholesterolemia. He is also coordinator of the transversal program on overweight, obesity and metabolic, vascular and renal risk at the Health Research Institute – INCLIVA, and responsible for the participation of the research group in the CIBER of Diabetes and Associated Metabolic Diseases (CIBERDEM) of the Institute of Health Charles III. His research work has been developed mainly in the area of cardiometabolic risk and diabetes and its associated complications. He is the author of more than 150 original papers and reviews published in different international journals. He has been the principal investigator in multiple research projects financed in competitive public calls, both national and regional. As a collaborator, he has also participated in European projects and national and regional competitive projects.
