Dr. Felipe J. Chaves has a degree and PhD in Biology from the University of Valencia and Director of the INCLIVA Genomics and Diabetes Unit. He developed his doctoral thesis focused on the genetic study of familial hypercholesterolemia at the Cytological Research Institute of Valencia, directed by Dr. Mª Eugenia Armengod. He has directed more than 40 research projects, and has participated in more than 160 publications with an H index of 35. Dr. Chaves is an evaluator for different national and regional agencies, a reviewer in different leading international journals, and associate editor at Biomedicine. The main areas of interest are: – The identification of frequent and rare functional variants involved in the development of high-risk cardiovascular diseases and their interaction with environmental factors. – Analysis of the methylation of the genome in patients with T2D at the beginning of the study as possible markers of the risk of developing the disease. – Identification of the genetic and epigenetic bases of severe food intolerances. – Identification of relationships between different genes, essential metals and environmental factors in relation to type 2 diabetes and related traits – Development of methodology for monitoring and molecular characterization of chronic lymphocytic leukemia and study of molecular markers.
